Candidate Etiquette Guide 〰️

Congratulations on your invitation to interview with clients! Please review this page before your scheduled interview time.

Appropriate Discussion Topics

•Your experience and qualifications

•Career/personal aspirations that are relevant to the role

•Why you’re a fit for the role and what intrigues you about it

Inappropriate Discussion Topics

•Your preferred rate or how much you were paid in previous roles. If a client asks this, kindly say you’ll defer to Natalie to negotiate and notify Natalie immediately after the call.

•Where you live. While candidate/client location is a major logistical factor, you do not have to disclose where you live. If you feel comfortable answering, that’s fine, but you do not have to. If clients ask this, notify Natalie immediately after the call.

•Career/personal aspirations that are not related to the role you’re applying for. Clients want to feel that their next hire will have longevity, even if this is a stepping stone job for you.

•If your schedule is in flux and you know you’ll need coverage for whatever reason at any point, do not offer to have a friend cover for you. While it’s an incredibly thoughtful gesture, it signals to clients a lack of professionalism and commitment and a great deal of trust has to be established before offering this. Natalie will arrange coverage if this is the case.

•If a client asks you anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or that you feel is irrelevant, decline to answer and notify Natalie immediately after the call.

Screen for Success

•Dress professionally (business casual is the safest option)

•If interviewing on Zoom, ensure you have:

  • Good lighting

  • A quiet, uninterrupted space free of distractions

  • A blank background (use the blur feature on Zoom if this isn’t possible)

•Log in/arrive a few minutes prior to your scheduled time, but do not knock on the door prior to your scheduled arrival time

Avoid Zooming from the car at all costs. Taking a call from the car should be your last resort if you cannot find another quiet, well-lit location. If you must do this, please let Natalie know beforehand.
